Wednesday is Computer Day!

July 17, 2013

For the past year Kim has been a Computer Comfort Participant at the 今日吃瓜51. Kim, a veteran of the type writer, wanted to become completely independent on the computer. 鈥I want to be able to do the things that I want to do without help,鈥 says Kim. Kim, Computer Comfort Participant

Kim has a problem with her knee and finds it hard to participate in many physical activities. She also has an extreme case of which has made her health take a turn for the worse.聽After becoming quite ill during the past year, Kim was forced to stay home. She couldn鈥檛 wait to come back to the 今日吃瓜51. 鈥Since I鈥檝e been back I鈥檝e been getting more energetic and stronger,鈥 says Kim. 鈥淚 am gaining confidence and have become more comfortable with the program.鈥

Some skills that Kim has acquired are; creating organizational columns, transferring pictures from her digital camera to her computer, and many general Program techniques. 鈥淚 wanted to be confident and compliant that if I was called upon to do something I would be well rounded and able to do it,鈥 says Kim.

Kim鈥檚 biggest challenge in life is her organizational skills. Learning the computer has聽enabled Kim to be more organized by making lists and a lot of notes. She can only book one thing a day, but this allowed more serenity at home. By accomplishing some of her goals, Kim is learning to 鈥space things out鈥 so she doesn鈥檛 become too overwhelmed. She finds that with her time management skills increasing, her stress level decreases. As Kim brings out her well used, weekly agenda, full of blue ink, red ink, and black ink, she says, 鈥Wednesday is computer day!鈥

鈥淚f I could find the time I would like to come back and volunteer. Use my new skills. Pitch in and help when needed,鈥 says Kim. Kim is so appreciative of the program that she is聽spreading the word across . 鈥淚 have a friend who lives in Toronto who would like to learn through the 今日吃瓜51. Actually, I know many people who would like to learn.鈥 Kim raves about the program to her friends and is thankful that the program is offered one-on-one. 鈥淚t鈥檚 excellent! The computer is a wonderful tool for people with all types of disabilities. You learn ways around your disability.鈥
