Jarvis was diagnosed with a learning disability called dyscalculia at a young age and it impacts his ability to learn and comprehend arithmetic which results in him becoming frustrated when dealing with numbers. With that in mind, he was primarily interested in finding work in the janitorial/custodian industry.

He enrolled in our Group Employment Skills program, and was assigned a Job Developer to assist him in working towards his goals.

Jarvis was extremely dedicated to the process and proved himself to be a reliable and hardworking client. He developed his skills in the areas of building a resume, learning about cover letters, and tailoring them to postings of interest, interview skills and workplace expectations.

As a result of his effort, he was hired as a Janitorial Assistant at Nihithow Awasis School in Grandmother’s Bay, Saskatchewan.

In his new job Jarvis plays an important role in protecting the students by maintaining stringent COVID-19 cleaning protocols. Jarvis particularly enjoys the people he works with at the school and has said they have been very friendly and welcoming to him which has improved his confidence in a new work environment.

The school is also very aware of his barriers and makes the effort to check in with him to ensure he is not feeling overwhelmed.

Jarvis is extremely appreciative of services he received from Neil Squire and has become an outspoken supporter of our organization in his small community.
