Lisa had learned about Neil Squire through word-of-mouth and decided to join our Creative Employment Options program in search of full-time employment where she could make a difference in the lives of others.
She was born with Cerebral Palsy and has faced difficulties when it comes to tasks that involved walking or covering long distances due to her slower pace. In addition, her muscle weakness and limited use of her left hand made writing and typing more time-consuming.
These factors had previously limited her options for employment, particularly in call centre environments where meeting typing speed requirements and performance targets posed challenges.
With the support of her career facilitators, Lisa committed herself to enhancing her skills and improving her employability. She worked diligently to improve her interviewing skills, effectively market herself for employment opportunities, and prepare for mock interviews. Lisa also tailored her cover letters and resumes to showcase her strengths and utilized various job boards to explore potential openings.
Lisa’s hard work and determination paid off when she had the opportunity to interview for the role of an Advocate for an employment support program at a local college. Her exceptional preparation and dedication shone through during the interview process, ultimately leading to her landing the job.
As an Advocate, Lisa draws on her personal experiences and expertise to provide support to individuals seeking employment. Her journey of overcoming challenges and her unwavering commitment to assisting others make her an invaluable asset to her team.
