Jesse’s Inspired to Pursue a Career Helping Others

October 7, 2024

At age four, Jesse had a traumatic brain injury from a car accident, leading to short-term memory difficulties as he grew older. He excels when tasks are written sequentially and given extra time. His memory challenges have contributed to anxiety, especially about being treated differently, which intensifies in fast-paced settings where he forgets steps and makes mistakes.

With the support of Neil Squire staff, Jesse received guidance in exploring different careers, updating his resume, crafting tailored cover letters, and accessing the hidden job market.

He also participated in mock interviews, developed a wellness plan, engaged in confidence-building exercises, and learned about disability disclosure and accommodation. This process inspired him to pursue a career helping others.

Working with his Job Developer, Jesse researched educational pathways and determined he wanted to become an Addictions and Community Services Worker.

He submitted his application for a college program, prepared for and completed an entrance exam, and eagerly waited to learn if he was approved. However, he did not have to wait long — he was accepted into the program!

Jesse recently began his studies and is on a path to a great career and making a difference.
