“I Honestly Feel Like It’s Been Life Changing,” New Hearing Aids Make a Big Difference at Work for Katherine

May 24, 2024

Katherine works in human resources with a non-profit in the Fraser Valley. Her job involves a lot of communicating with co-workers and attending meetings, as well as taking meeting minutes.

A view of a meeting where various people are taking notes on paper and on laptop, and there are printouts with charts and graphs. She has hearing loss and needs to use hearing aids. However, her hearing aids were getting rather old, and she was worried they might break and couldn’t be repaired. Her audiologist referred her to WorkBC Assistive Technology Services for funding. She applied and was quickly approved.

“They helped me to afford new hearing aids, which was not doable on my own without their assistance. My extended benefits only covered 10% of what was needed,” she says. “I wouldn’t have been able to complete daily tasks if my hearing aids broke.”

Katherine has noticed a big difference with her new hearing aids.

“My old hearing aids were not Bluetooth setup, and now using my new hearing aids I can connect wirelessly to my computer and have virtual meeting sound play right into my hearing aids. I honestly feel like it’s been life changing having better technology to do my job, and I feel I can hear more,” she says.

Katherine says she “aDZܳٱ” recommends WorkBC Assistive Technology Services to others in need.

“Everyone through the different steps were amazingly helpful and knowledgeable,” she explains. “[They] walked me through all of the necessary paperwork, and [were] very patient and kind. I am very grateful to have been able to use this opportunity to afford something I wouldn’t have on my own. Thank you.”
