“I am Beyond Grateful,” New Hearing Aids Help Liana at Work

July 19, 2024

Liana works as a barista at a coffee shop, and she also works with her local chamber of commerce. At the coffee shop, it’s a fast-paced environment taking customers orders, while at the chamber of commerce, she manages memberships and has to communicate with local businesses. She has a cochlear impairment in both ears.

A barista holds a cup of cappuccino.“I don’t hear well at all,” she shares. “[It] causes errors and miscommunications at work with members, customers, and peers.”

Her audiologist referred her to WorkBC Assistive Technology Services. She applied and was quickly approved, receiving funding for the hearing aids she needs for work. She’s already noticed a big difference.

“I make less errors at work, [I] can engage more positively and effectively with peers, bosses, and customers,” she says. “[I have] more job enjoyment and satisfaction. [I have] less embarrassment in ‘guessing’ what everyone is saying or missing things.”

Liana says “of course” she recommends WorkBC Assistive Technology Services to others in need.

“Without this assistance, I would never have been able to afford my hearing aids, (or would have taken years to save money),” she says.

“I am beyond grateful,” she continues. “I am so appreciative.”

WorkBC Assistive Technology Services is operated by Neil Squire. Assistive Technology Services are available to individuals who have a work-related barrier due to a disability or a functional limitation. This may include barriers related to traveling to and from the workplace.
