Hot Toys for #HackingForTheHolidays

November 7, 2023

After last year鈥檚 successful campaign, we wanted to add a bunch of toys to our repertoire.

The goal is to make sure there鈥檚 a little something for everyone 鈥 some kids may like Pok茅mon, some may like Barbie, and everything in between 鈥 and toys that could appeal to a variety of age ranges.

Here鈥檚 a look at some of the toys we are hacking as we head into the holiday season. (This list is not exhaustive, just a look at some of our favourites).

Pikachu

An adapted Pikachu plush toy.

Last year, one of our hottest toys was the adapted Peppa Pig, and in the early goings, it鈥檚 looking like this year鈥檚 hot toy might be Pikachu.

Pikachu is a plush toy that has a switch adaption via one cable. When the switch is plugged in and activated, Pikachu says “Pika Pika.” If the switch is held on, Pikachu will sing “Pikachu.鈥

Calming Vibes Hedgehog or Walrus

A switch adapted Calming Vibes Hedgehog.

Who doesn鈥檛 like cute singing animals?

This plush toy features music and vibrations when activated. The toy has an internal switch with two modes 鈥 music, or music and vibration. The toy is adapted via one cable and has two animal varieties: hedgehog or walrus.

Jelly Fish or Volcano Lamp

A switch adapted jellyfish lamp.

A fresh take on the lava lamp, we could watch these things for hours.

When activated, this lamp will have lights with changing colours, and a gentle motor that will move the jellyfish or beads 鈥 causing the look of jelly fish swimming, or a volcano erupting.

This toy uses one switch. Please note: The user may want to use a switch and latching switch keep the toy activated.

Barbie Remote Control Car

A barbie doll is pressing a switch which controls the Barbie RC car that has a Barbie doll driving it.

Drive in style like Barbie.

The Barbie car has two buttons with a total of four functions. This remote is switch adapted for each function for a total of four functions: forward, backwards, right, and left. (Sorry, Barbie not included).

This toy uses four switches.

Remote Control Race Car

A switch adapted RC car with a steering wheel to control it.

Barbie not your style, but still like fast cars?

The race cars come in a pack of two. Each remote has two buttons 鈥 forwards and backwards with turning. The remotes are switch adapted for each button, so it will use two switches.

This toy uses two switches.

Nintendo Plush Toys 鈥 Green Shell, Super Mushroom, or Question Block

A switch adapted green Koopa shell.

Just like the video game (or movie, for fans of this year鈥檚 other big hit movie).

These plush Nintendo toys are connected via one cable. Press the switch and it will make the corresponding sound from the iconic video games.

Bubble Blowers

A person presses a switch to activate an adapted Bubble Blower.

From Mickey to Cocomelon to just the classic green ones, we鈥檝e been doing a variety of Bubble Machines. Each bubble machine is adapted for switch use and will begin blowing bubbles when activated by switch. When the switch is released, the machine will stop blowing bubbles.

This toy uses one switch. Please note: The user may want to use a switch and latching switch keep the toy activated, and the switch is an on/off button.

Spinning Light Wand

An adapted Spinning Light Wand in use, with many bright colours in it's orb spinning.

These wands come with a 3D printed base so the toy can stand upright. When a switch is connected and activated, multi-coloured lights will will turn on and spin in circular motion.
