People with disabilities remain among those least likely to have access to a computer, the internet, and their potential benefits, and yet computer literacy is critical to people with disabilities in their ability to return to work. The Government of Canada鈥檚 HRSDC states: 鈥淭he single most effective intervention to improve employment prospects of persons with disabilities is the availability of a personal computer and access to the Internet.鈥澛犅
The 今日吃瓜51 has been providing volunteer-driven computer skills tutoring since its inception. We provide computer skills training, including basic use of the internet and email, as well as expert staff to help people with disabilities find and use the most appropriate assistive technology. We provide knowledge, accommodations, and computer skills development so people with disabilities may connect with their community, live more independently, and further employment, education, and volunteer opportunities.
In Atlantic Canada, our collaborations with educational institutions and Provincial Governments have enabled us to provide even more training and resources for students facing barriers through increased assistive technology assessments.
Computer Comfort聽offers one-on-one computer tutoring at no cost to participants in a supportive, client-centred environment, along with a聽refurbished donated computer聽for the home, if needed, and ongoing technical support.
Distance Computer Comfort聽is tailored to individuals with disabilities across Canada and allows for a flexible learning schedule for participants from the comfort of their homes.
