On Saturday, October 15th, we were pleased to partner with to host a Youth Making Change family build event at their Springdale Branch.
Families worked together to build switches and adapt toys, all of which will be donated to a child with disabilities through our 听肠补尘辫补颈驳苍.
In all, library staff, four families, and a local student 鈥 with eight youths 鈥 adapted 10 toys and built 10 . Some of the families even hacked multiple toys and made multiple switches.
The kids learned many valuable skills and saw how they can give back to their community using those skills.
“As a Diversity and Adult Services Librarian at Brampton Library, I was particularly amazed to see the variety of interest for this program, from young and mature families to individual teens looking to learn how we can build an accessible community together,鈥 says librarian Natalie Haid.
鈥淓veryone was positively surprised to discover that toy hacking need not involve the most technologically skilled among us. We left the program inspired by the thought that we are all capable of being a larger part of an accessible movement, not only a participant in a fun and different program.”
We look forward to doing more great events with Brampton Library in the future.
