Coquitlam Public Library – Youth Switch Build

September 17 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm PDT

Event banner

Calling all Youth Makers! Come Learn, Build and Make Change in your community. For ages 10 and up.

In this workshop we’ll explore Assistive Technology by Hacking into a Toy and re-wiring it to make it Switch Accessible. The best part is every Toy we Hack will be donated to the community after we’re done.

According to Statistics Canada, 80% of people living with a disability use an assistive device to increase their independence, and 27% need at least one more. Cost is often cited as the main barrier.

Our guiding vision at Neil Squire is to achieve economic and social inclusiveness for all people with disabilities. To support this vision,  leverages the capacity of community based Makers, Disability Professionals and Volunteers to develop and deliver affordable Open Source Assistive Technologies.

Makers Making Change supports STEM education through an assistive technology lens. Our workshops encourage students to tackle real-world challenges as Maker Volunteers and to empathize with people with disabilities. Learn more here: .

There will be light refreshments.

In partnership with the Makers Making Change program of Neil Squire.
