Michelle is opening her own business in February, something she’s able to do thanks to equipment she received from WorkBC Assistive Technology Services.
“Without this equipment, this wouldn’t be possible for me,†she says.
“I have osteoarthritis and no cartilage in my knees which limits my mobility and the length of time I can sit without severe pain and inflammation in my legs. At my last job, I was required to sit at a desk for extended periods of time and would often end up with swollen legs and my knees would buckle when standing up.â€
Referred by her WorkBC case worker, Michelle received an assessment from a WorkBC Assistive Technology Services occupational therapist, and in short order, received the ergonomic supports she needed to start her business.
“I received a sit/stand desk, monitor to reduce neck and eye strain because I was getting bloodshot and irritated eyes from looking at screens, an awesome adjustable chair, a laptop riser, a footrest, and a hard mat for the carpet,†she shares, noting that she also received training on how to get the most out of her equipment.
She will be working largely from her home office, so her supports will allow her to put in the hours she needs to make her business a success. Michelle says she “most definitely†recommends WorkBC Assistive Technology Services.
“I am so grateful!†she says. “I honestly know that I would not be able to accomplish this without the equipment I received.â€
