Computer Comfort Puts Theoren on the Path to Employment

November 30, 2023

Theoren, who is M茅tis, joined our Computer Comfort program to upgrade his computer skills to get ready for employment. Among the many things computers are important for in the modern job search, he needed to create a resume and cover letter.

Theoren (right) works on the computer, while getting guidance from his Job Developer, Patrick (left). He describes himself as neurodivergent, having been diagnosed with Expressive and Receptive Language Disorder and Sensory Processing, and he says he struggles with learning in general. He has difficulty processing, comprehending, and retaining information and he has difficulty finding the right words to express his wants when speaking. He also struggles with spelling and translating thoughts into written words.

Theoren heard of Neil Squire from a teacher at his high school. He graduated from a Vocational Alternative Program (VAP) in June, and he plans to return to school to obtain a GED or Adult 12. While in school he completed three work experience terms in the areas of retail and restaurant services. Theoren came to Neil Squire hoping to work towards employment in the arts or with cooking.

Theoren enjoyed his time in Computer Comfort and benefited from having one-on-one training sessions. He says he specifically enjoyed working on his typing skills and feels he has successfully improved his typing ability. His confidence has improved greatly on the computer, and he feels more prepared to find a job that suits him.

After completing his time in Computer Comfort, and with a newfound comfort using computers, Theoren has moved into our Group Employment Skills program. Theoren is continuing to work with his Job Developer and is working towards finding employment.
