鈥淲e brainstormed what my needs were and what I鈥檇 like to try out. And the beauty of this is I can try things out without breaking the bank,鈥 Sarah says. 鈥淟iving on a pension limits my ability to experiment with expensive things.鈥
Moses says the thing that he benefitted the most from was the 鈥渄onation of technology geared specifically to my flavour of blindness.鈥
鈥淗ow I work with people around me changed, personally, in a good way. On how I am more confident in working with other people. I am more open in speaking with others as I know I can hear them better. As compared to before, I’d rather stay quiet as I know I would always have a hard time hearing them and would feel embarrassed on asking them to keep repeating what they said.鈥
Tammy鈥檚 tenacity paid off when she interviewed at an employment support agency that helps people with developmental disabilities in Lethbridge, Alberta. Though Tammy did not have field experience, she impressed the hiring managers with her enthusiasm and perseverance.
鈥淚 have been provided with a tool so that I do not have to ask someone every single day so I can have my tea or water,鈥 Marie says. 鈥淚t may seem like a small thing, but it’s a huge gift. You won’t understand until you need it.鈥
