At the 今日吃瓜51, we take web accessibility very seriously. We strive to uphold the highest standards appropriate to our medium
Success Criteria
Priority 1 : Perceivable
- Guideline 1.1 : Provide text alternatives for all non-text content
- A
- Guideline 1.2 : Provide synchronized alternatives for multimedia
- not applicable – our multimedia is handled externally by Youtube
- Guideline 1.3 : Ensure that information and structure can be separated from presentation
- AA
- Guideline 1.4 : Make it easy to distinguish foreground information from its background
- AAA
So far, priority 1 is met in full. We have gone to lengths to ensure that our web content adapts gracefully to whatever means are being used to perceive it. Some highlights include:
- multiple themes to address different user needs, including: high contrast, big text, and mobile
- use of images overlaying text via style to ensure that operating system high contrast settings are handled gracefully and that screen reader rendering is seamless
- invisible text added to convey information to screen reader users where needed
- elastic site design which properly renders across 200% magnification and various display resolutions
If we introduce embedded media, we will bring it into compliance with guideline 1.2.
Priority 2: Operable
- Guideline 2.1 : Make all functionality operable via a keyboard interface
- AAA
- Guideline 2.2 : Allow users to control time limits on their reading or interaction
- not applicable – we do not introduce timed activities for our users
- Guideline 2.3 : Allow users to avoid content that could cause seizures due to photosensitivity
- AAA
- Guideline 2.4 : Provide mechanisms to help users find content, orient themselves within it, and navigate through it
- AAA
- Guideline 2.5 : Help users avoid mistakes and make it easy to correct mistakes that do occur
- A
Our site is highly operable, but there is room for improvement under guideline 2.5. The site search features will be revisited and improved at a later date. At present, intelligent corrections of user input is an area to be addressed.
Guideline 3: Understandable
- Guideline 3.1 : Make text content readable and understandable.
- AA
- Guideline 3.2 : Make the placement and functionality of content predictable.
- AAA
Full compliance with guideline 3.1 demands that all content be readable at a lower secondary school level. This guideline will take time to introduce as it requires all content to be re-written and presented in a plain English version. At present, measures have been taken to allow mouse-over expansion of abbreviations and acronyms.
Guideline 4: Robust
- Guideline 4.1 : Support compatibility with current and future user agents (including assistive technologies)
- A
- Guideline 4.2 : Ensure that content is accessible or provide an accessible alternative
- AAA
We meet all Robust guidelines in full.
